Let me tell you why I DON’T do yoga… I don’t do yoga so I can put my leg behind my head. In fact, why? Why would you need to do this? What real-life situation calls for this? Don’t say sex Lynn. Don’t say sex. Keep it PG. Sex. I guess you might need it for sex. Crap. I said it. I don’t do yoga so I can take #InstaWorthy pictures. I don’t do yoga so I have an excuse to wear Lululemon all day. (Although, I do think wearing yoga pants all day is awesome.) I don’t do yoga to burn calories and make up for the dessert I had last night. In fact, I don’t do ANY form of exercise for this reason, because that reason sucks and it’s mean, and you should NEVER use exercise to punish yourself for eating.
Now, here’s why I DO do yoga.: hee hee. Do do sounds like doo doo. Poop. 💩 Oh good grief Lynn, you’re a child. I do yoga so I don’t give my children away to the highest bidder when they wake me up for the 4th time in one night. I do yoga so I don’t break up with my boyfriend when he annoys me. I do yoga so I don’t pull my hair out when some technical difficulty arises and I realize I need to call up a millennial to help me get my computer working again. I do yoga so I don’t flip off the grandma driver in front of me who has had her blinker on for the past 5 miles but HAS.NOT.TURNED. I do yoga so I can co-parent with my ex-husband in a peaceful and joyful manner. I do yoga so I can show up to this world and make a difference.
And so you know, I meditate for the EXACT same reasons. To me, yoga and meditation go hand in hand. Yoga is a moving form of meditation for me, and I love using the traditional sitting and being quite form of meditation anytime during the day when I find myself losing my shit, experiencing anxiety, getting worked up about something, or simply when I need to redirect and shift my energy from whacked out, to joyful and peaceful.
When I am consistent with my yoga and meditation practice, I experience less stress which allows me to maintain hormonal balance. Stress is the number one reason why a woman’s hormones become unbalanced causing her to experience everything and anything between pms, mood swings, increased appetite, PCOS, infertility, fatigue and more. I don’t want any of that! When I’m consistent with my yoga and meditation practice, I can process, handle and respond (not react!) to issues, obstacles or frustrations that may come my way. When I’m consistent with my practice, my outlook on life is much brighter and I am able to help others. I have a history of depression. I need to maintain a positive mindset so I don’t slip into old behaviors that rob me of my happiness.
Yoga & meditation are key tools in my toolbox for living life with joy, kicking ass and taking names. (p.s. I don’t know what that means, it just sounded good. “Kicking ass and taking names”. I should google that if I’m going to use it.)
We’re living in times where more and more is being asked of us. Where things are going awry and the problems of the world can creep into our lives and cause havoc in our relationships and sense of well-being. Don’t you want to use something that is proven to protect you from the shitstorms of life, or at the very least, help you to manage it all with grace, ease, and optimism?
Yoga & meditation are KEY to not just surviving this world, but THRIVING in it!
This is for everyone! I don’t care if you’re old, young, black, white, purple, green, man, woman, in-between…yoga & meditation is for everyone and EVERY body. I mean, I can’t even touch my toes and I yoga.
Make 2018 the year you stop “surviving” and “getting through the day” (that sounds miserable) and instead, use yoga and meditation to thrive. To refuel you. To empower you. To help you connect with your chosen Higher Power and receive guidance on what to do with your life. Use yoga and meditation to create a life you love. You only get ONE! One life. This is it folks! Why oh freaking why would you waste it feeling stressed the f-out day in and day out? Why would you waste this one life feeling lost, scared, having negative thoughts, making poor choices, and repeating the same insanities that you have been for YEARS, maybe even decades?
Make 2018 DIFFERENT. Don’t let it be the same as 2017. Or 2016. Or 2015. Enough is enough. Life is meant to be enjoyed. Life is meant to be good. If yoga and meditation can help you experience this, why not give it a try?
